Rotary Club Hosts Two Christmas Parties For Kodiak Kids
The Rotary Club invites Kodiak children to two annual Christmas parties next Saturday at the Orpheum Theater and Usa. The Orpheum event serves ages six and up with a cartoon Karnival from 10 30 a m to 11 30 a m featuring Santa Claus and gifts. Younger children five and older will gather at party f at 10 45 a m. Proceeds from fines fund club activities and holiday cheer for local youngsters ahead of Christmas day.

Dr. Eugene C. Blake president of the National Council of Churches in America arrives today to greet servicemen at Naval Station and address a mass meeting at the high school auditorium Sunday evening. He appears on AFRS TV tonight and attends a dinner hosted by Rear Admiral Ira Hobbs. He speaks at 11 a.m. Sunday at Billiken Theater and lunch with enlisted men at noon. Accompanying him are Donald C. Bolles, Martin C. Poch, and chaplains from Elmendorf AFB. The 7:30 p.m. Sunday auditorium meeting is open to the public.

Freezing Plant May Yet Be Built
Wallace George arrives in Kodiak from Juneau as principal stock holder of the local company formed years ago to build a cold storage plant. Measles Epidemic Strikes Perryville Alaska
A Perryville measles outbreak grew into pneumonia with seven severe ear infections. Navy Flight Surgeon Lieut. W. J. Henry, on a mercy mission from Kodiak, reports 30 cases including 15 with pneumonia and 25 are children. A 13 year old and a seven month infant have died. The outbreak followed a returning resident’s illness.

Road Plan Considered For Fort Abercrombie Bay Link
Road Committee urges the Chamber of Commerce to back a new road between Fort Abercrombie and Anton Larsen Bay along the shoreline. It would open land for homesteading and recreation and requests applications to start construction. Dr. Bob Johnson chaired the meeting in Jack Hinckel’s absence. Bidarka Gift to KAIHS From Navy Ship Tawa koni
A native bidarka 22 feet long and three-berth was delivered to Kodiak by the Navy ship Tawa koni. The gift to the Kodiak and Aleutian Islands Historical Society was given by the Mayor of Unalaska Forwarded. George Cornelius led the ceremony with Dr A Holmes Johnson Henry White and Bob Fix on hand for photos. The vessel is among the few remaining and valued for its rarity, with no known examples in major museums.

Teenager in Beach Car Crash Survives After 70 MPH Spin
A car driven by Joe Peterson, 19, veered off Mission Road near Vine Dalys and overturned on the beach in the early hours. Four other teens, including Harry Nielsen, 22, were riders in the Chevrolet owned by Nielsen. Peterson, who admitted drinking nine beers, said he aimed to test speed, with the odometer at 70 before losing control. Nielsen suffered a fractured skull and arm injuries, while Daniel Valley had a broken left arm and neck cuts. Peterson had minor injuries, and two others were uninjured. The crash left one rider in critical condition at the hospital. Authorities, Patrolman Joe Taylor, and Gordon Nelson investigated.
