Local Residents Home After Round World Trip
Mrs Catherine Blankenburg owner of Frontier Shop and her daughter Gail returned last weekend from a seven month journey through 17 countries. They traveled mainly on two East Asiatic Co cargo ships with the final leg by Northwest Airlines from Tokyo. Countries visited include Denmark Canada Panama Belgium Holland England Germany France Norway Sweden Italy Egypt Arabia British Malaya Siam Hong Kong and Japan.

Navy Plans New Road and Airport Facilities for 1952
A Naval Station official announced that a contract for an asphalt road to Buskin River may be let around January 35, 1952. Plans include building at Buskin Lake transmitter station, spring 1952 start, and a 2,800 foot taxiway extension as part of an ongoing series of construction projects with additional air facilities in planning.

D. N. Buck Hoylman has been named as manager of the W. F. Meek and Company's crab operations here. W. F. Meek, founder of the business, has returned to Anchorage and will again work for the Bureau of Land Management. He plans to return to Kodiak in the spring to regain supervision of his company. Mrs. Meek has returned to Anchorage several weeks ago.

Frozen Bread Shipped To Alaska
The Alas ka Steamship Company freighter will carry frozen bread to Anchorage. Curt Smith of Vic's Box Lunch Seattle devised the method. Bread goes to Pacific Coast Catering in Anchorage, loaded in insulated boxes with dry ice. Smith projects 18 000 pounds weekly delivery.

Miller's House Swept By Fire
An early morning fire around 5 am damaged the second floor of Al Millers home near the Community Baptist Church. Clothing and personal effects were lost as firefighters prevented a roof collapse. loss estimated at $2,000. The Millers moved to the Montmartre Inn during repairs.

Clark Receives Elk Award For Student Activities
Donald Clark, son of Basil and Mrs. Clark, earned an Elks student activities prize of a $100 war bond at the Fairbanks lodge from Max LaLande. The award, part of the Elksworthy program, honors his extensive Kodiak High School activities and his selection as junior mayor. Now a University of Alaska freshman, he was named most worthy in student activities among all Alaska students by the BPOE.
