Pioneer Jesse Blinn Dies at 80 in Alaska
Jesse Blinn, 80, early Alaska pioneer who ran Kodiak dance hall and pool room and later mail service between Seldovia and Cook Inlet, died Tuesday at Au hospital. Born February 17, 1862 in Frankfort Indiana, he arrived in Alaska in 1887 aboard Amethyst to fish Karluk, later managed Northern Commercial on Woody Island and led a coin store precursor to O J & Son.

Shuravioff Funeral Services Held for Mrs Shuravi
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Tesian Greek Orthodox Church for Mrs Simeon Shuravi born January 10 1882 in Kodiak. Daughter of Jacob TriCarloff she married in 1900. Husband died in February 1927. Survived by daughters Mrs Mendell Mrs Helen Eck Mrs Morrison and sons Lionel and Miam all of this city. She lived in Cordova since 1904 and had suffered a paralytic stroke in January 1941 and another in September this year, and had lived with her daughter Mrs Morrison.

Overdue Hunters Return After Six Weeks Missing
Mr and Mrs Bob Anderson of Kodiak and Dean Smith a base employee returned to town last night after six weeks overdue from a bear hunting trip that began October 3. Delayed by motor trouble and bad weather they were rescued near Piriden Bay by Laurenson of Bear Island and a second search boat led by Jon Rogers. Rogers was delayed by a wire snag near Ouzinkie but is expected back today. The party bagged three bears but left the skins behind.

Death Follows Fall Overboard Near Kodiak
Manuel Lopez about 50 died Sunday after falling overboard from an Army boat that had left Kodiak about 15 minutes earlier. Witnesses said a crew member jumped in to rescue him but he died on rescue. Officials report death by heart failure and immersion. He is survived by his mother in Blaine Washington.

Services Held for John Goodmensen 64
John Goodmensen, 64, died December 1 after a heart attack. A sailor and fisherman in the area for nine years, born in Norway and naturalized, he is survived by his brother Gustav of Kodiak and relatives in the United States. Interment was in the new cemetery.
