Kodiak Voters Set Oct 2 For Bond Issue And Posts

Kodiak residents will vote October 2 on a 630000 bond issue with 500000 for water system improvements and 130000 for sewer additions. They will also elect two councilmen, decide on selling property to Alaska Ice and Storage, Inc., and consider a new city charter at City Hall. Incumbents Bill Worth and Nick Frost seek reelection. Only last assessment names qualify to vote on bonds. age 19 plus one year Alaska residency and 30 days in city qualify for council, property sale, and charter votes.

Enrollment Nears Thousand Figure in Ko diak Schools

Seldovia Goose Crash Kills Five and Injures Four

Five men died and four were critically hurt when a twin engine Goose crashed near Seldovia on Thursday morning. Eight cannery workers were being flown to Homer for a connector to Seattle. Survivors included Homer pilot William C. De Craft and crewmen Tore Hoven and Bob Olsen. Dead include Dr. Ralph W. McKinzie of Silverton Floyd E. Durham Jr El Monte Herman G. Billalobos Dan MacEachern and Charles M. Anderson. The crash occurred in a timbered area after takeoff about 9:30 a.m.

Lazy Bay Youths Body Recovered After Dance Outing

Tecon Peterson Jr., a Kodiak fisherman from Moser Bay, was found drowned in Lazy Bay after attending a dance on August 12. A search was launched when he did not visit his sister as expected, and a 14 year old sighted the body on August 20. Police found no foul play.

Kodiak Traveler's Money Is Stolen

A 19 year old Anchorage youth John A Neumann was arraigned on a grand larceny charge for stealing $100 in travelers checks from Kodiak resident Russell Olaf Coyne last Saturday. Neumann allegedly picked up Coyne’s dropped checks in a liquor store and forged the signatures.

Pacific Northern sets two new July records in 1960s data

Pacific Northern Airlines carried 21,890 passengers in July and achieved 17,110,000 revenue passenger miles, both all-time highs. Previous highs were 20,829 passengers in 1962 and 17,051,000 revenue passenger miles in August 1959.
