Alaska Steamship backs Kodiak harbor plan says it aids safety

Admiral F A Zeusler of the Alaska Steamship Co voiced support for a small boat harbor in Kodiak. He said the harbor would not hinder navigation and could improve safety for small craft. Zeusler, visiting on an inspection trip, noted the company’s private operation status and outlined anticipated Kodiak growth in cattle, agriculture, wool, cold storage, fish, tourism and related services.

Three Women Tour Alaska Highway En Route to Kodiak

Three Seattle visitors journeyed up the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks and Kodiak, sharing stories of a well traveled road with friendly locals. The group, hosted in Kodiak by Mr and Mrs W R Mellon, plans further travels including Anchorage and Banff National Park, while others in the area note visits and travel on the Denali and Denali route.

He urged retaining the Jones Act arguing repeal would hurt U S merchant marine and said ASC serves Alaska ports and aims to continue. Paving Begins on Kodiak Main Street Progress Push

Paving of Kodiak's main street starts this week with culvert work near the former commissioner’s office. If on schedule, Alaska Way will become a cement street from Mission to Brooklyn in 2 or 3 months after completing sewers grading and curb adjustments. Ralph Shupp leads culvert work while Patrick Lynch and Co will pave. 130 tons of cement are planned, with detours and regrading to 12 inches below finished grade.
