The Kodiak public school opens September 4 with an estimated 800 students. Enrollment takes place in late August at the central office. The new high school and elementary building feature modern facilities and are organized to split attendance by district sections.

Visitor Robert Atwood Visits Anchorage Times Publisher
Robert Atwood publisher of the Anchorage Times and Republican Senate candidate under the Tennessee plan visited town over the weekend. He arrived Friday and departed Sunday, conferred with party officials and met old acquaintances. A breakfast was hosted for him Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Jack Hinckel.

District Governor Articulates Rotary Visit Next Week
The Kodiak Rotary Club will host Ralph A. Bartholomew District Governor 151 and his wife Laura next Thursday. He will attend a Rotary Assembly at the new High School and a Friday reception for Mrs Bartholomew. The Island Fountain hosts Friday lunch as the Governor attends club activities and reports.

Harbor Project changes eyed by corps and chamber
The District Corps of Engineers may revise plans for the Small Boat Harbor to stretch appropriated funds. John Gibbons said bids should be let in January 1957. Visitors included DeWitt D. DeMeer of Modern Electric, Ramstad’s Don Taylor, Alaska Sportman Bob Olsen, and Dr. Bob Johnson who said historic signs will be installed soon. The group urged U S Marshal Deputy presence, and a film on the 1955 All American Soap Box Derby was shown.

Duck Hunting Opens Sept 1 With Last Year Rules
The duck hunting season starts September 1 with the same regulations as last year per Will Troyer of the Game Department. Attempts to extend dates failed. Regulations will be available soon at the PWS office on Mission Road. Daily bag limits include eight jack snipe, seven game ducks, three geese, three brant, fifteen coot, twenty five morganser, and ten for Old Squaw Harlequin Scoter and Eider combined. Gladys Marie Buchello and Elmer Niemen wed before U.S. Commissioner last night. Toastmasters Club meets September 4 at Montmartre.
