Experimental halibut boat conducts tagging missions in Alaska
The Havana, a Seattle registered experimental halibut vessel chartered by the International Fisheries Commission, stopped in Kodiak to pick up two men and refuel as it works with the University of Washington and the Canadian government. Two Navy Sailors Hurt In Jeep Wreck At NOB
Two enlisted men at NOB were seriously injured Sunday afternoon when a Jeep they rode in overturned during an authorized recreation trip to Pasagshak. Doyle A. Reeves, seaman apprentice, sustained multiple head injuries while Alex E. Odom, yeoman seaman, injured his left hand. Other passengers were uninjured, per Navy spokesman.

Coast Guard Plane Finds Lost Boat Near Shuyak Island
A 40-foot grey Army surplus J-boat belonging to Port Chatham Packing Co was found drifting eight miles east of Shuyak Island after a three day search by a Coast Guard plane. Lt Boteler and Lt Allen piloted the search with fog and bad weather limiting operations. The Kitty Wake II towed the vessel into town after locating it.

Alex Nekeferoff Dies Friday
Kodiak resident Alex Nekeferoff aged 70 died yesterday morning at Griffin Memorial Hospital from heart failure. A fisherman and widower born in Kodiak, he had been admitted Thursday after a two week prior stay. He had no children and is survived by three nephews Nick Bill and Alex Nekefe off. Funeral arrangements were not set.

Roy Chichenoff 26 son of Mr and Mrs Pete Chichenoff reported missing in action in the Korean war. Private first class he left Seattle around July 1 for Japan and had been home on furlough in June.
