Local Float Plane Crashes While Spotting Fish
Four people escaped serious injury when an Aeronca sedan crashed over Anton Larsen Bay while spotting salmon. Pilot Burl Clymer and passengers Vivian Kilgore, his nine year old son Johnny Kilgore, and Elwood Watson were rescued by the Ruth and later towed the plane to shore. Kilgore and Watson suffered cuts, with Johnny and Clymer unhurt. The crash, blamed on loss of control at about 200 feet, followed a 1:30 pm takeoff from Kodiak for the fish spotting trip and occurred around 4 pm. It was the second total loss aviation incident in two weeks in the area.
