Other races include Alfred Owen Jr trailing Ross Kimball for labor commissioner and Henry Benson leading Ray Beach in Republican counts. In territorial senate third division Engebreth leads Snider and Rivers leads Loussac. Pat Cannon runs 18th among 21 Democrats seeking House nomination with seven advancing.

Donald Whirry Dies Outside in Brookings Oregon
Donald Whirry 27 formerly in the refrigeration shop at the base died Sunday April 9 in Brookings Oregon after moving there from Kodiak. He had lived here six years and had been in Kodiak before and after the war. Death attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services held in Brookings. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

Contractors Start Own Building for Chase and Tolbert
Excavation for the foundation of the Chase and Tolbert Shupp Construction Company building is underway. The 97 by 974 foot concrete and steel structure will be at Brooklyn Avenue and the Carlson Hill road, with completion planned in 45 days. Ralph Shupp, a partner, said the facility will include offices, lumber storage, mill work, electrical and plumbing shops, and a display room. The site is part of the W. J. Erskine estate.

Baptist Church to Build $50,000 Educational Addition
