In a special session the City Council exempted medical dental and funeral expenses and school bus tickets from the proposed sales tax while keeping a tax on movie admissions. Dissenting vote favored removing medical and dental exemptions. A hearing before the District Court on city boundary inclusion was planned.
The Senior class of Kodiak High School presents the three act Good Glory Friday and Saturday May 4 and 5 with curtain at 8 p m at the Community Baptist Church The cast features Sam Witherspoon Simeonoff Kit Witherspoon Linda Rockstad Agnes Witherspoon Dona Van Buren Roma Trelelan Anna Mae Benson Todhunter Jay Molletti Glory Witherspoon Nancy Templeton George Darnell Jim Eclinger David Jordan Russel Gallagher Marion Coggles Irene Hicks Caleb Brad Poland.
The Toastmaster's Club changes its meeting site from the Island Fountain to the Montmartre Inn. The first gathering at the new location will be next Tuesday with meals and a speeches program as before. Members with transportation are asked to contact those without rides.
A naturalization ceremony was held in the District Court with Judge J. L. McCarrey presiding as twelve people became United States citizens. The ceremony, emceed by John Gibbons and sponsored by the Elks Lodge, featured speeches, Navy Band music, and a welcome from Mayor Johnson. The new citizens received flags, and speakers urged them to vote, stay informed, and contact their congressman.
The Third Division district court met Wednesday through Friday with multiple divorces granted and civil actions decided. Yoshoda won judgment over McNallen over sewage flow dispute. damages totaled 255 dollars. Several cases were dismissed or continued. Alaska notices moved to Anchorage for trial. Mil tow Roy Pagano failed to appear and the City of Kodiak received bail.
The following appeared before Judge McCarrey this week: William C. Hilton Clerk of the Court, Joan Myers Deputy Clerk and Court Reporter, Bonnie Brick and Mary Turner Judge's Secretary. Attorneys Buron Biss city attorney Anchorage, Donald Burr assistant U S attorney representing the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, and Russ Arnett city attorney. Court adjourned Thursday afternoon and personnel departed on the afternoon plane.

A Career Planning conference was held Thursday night in the Kindergarten room of the Grade School. The High School Guidance Department sponsored the event with senior class members as guests and parents and juniors in attendance. Dr. Bob Johnson introduced speakers who urged students to know themselves pick their game and be honest.
The Kodiak port reports a slow week with few arrivals led by Eldorado at Iihad Seafoods carrying 1700 crabs for 15,000 pounds. Oscar Dyson’s Suzie Q installs new gear to operate in bad weather, becoming the sole locally owned boat with modern equipment. Crabs hauled by several boats total roughly 29, and two ships, Lacider and Expansion, expected May 2-7, keeping the dock in alert status.
