Smith Indicted in Anchorage Burglary Case
Special to the MIRROR Robert Neil Smith aged 19 was indicted for burglary by the grand jury in Anchorage. He is charged with entering the Doghouse Restaurant on the morning of Nov 3 1949. Smith was shot by Joe Raymond owner of the Doghouse as he entered a rear door. He was hospitalized and later placed in the U S Federal jail in lieu of $1500 bail. Bail was set at $1500 again by the grand jury and Smith is held in the local federal jail. No trial date has been set. Henry Eaton local fisherman and Raymond were called to testify at the hearing held Wednesday. Eaton was passing the restaurant at the time of the shooting and helped take Smith to the hospital.

First Hunters Get Bears in Seattle Area
Two Seattle big game hunters Rudy V Herzog and Harvey B Hoff each downed a 10 foot Kodiak bear, first on spring season reports. Guides Bill Pinnell and Morris Talifson accompanied the hunt near Fraser and Akalura Lakes on the island. A non resident affidavit and shipping tag were issued for each skin by Fish and Wildlife Service agent Frank Beals. Skins will be shipped to the hunters in Seattle.

Primary Election in Kodiak Tuesday at City Hall

Air School In Operation At South Brooklyn Beach
The Chiniak Air Service resumed operations this week with student pilots training under M. F. O Brien and Thomas Gaffney of Ketchikan. The beach below Kraft's Store near South Brooklyn avenue serves as the site. Veterans using the GI Bill are accepted as students. Gaffney, from Ketchikan, earned his instructor rating at Spartan Air Institute in Tulsa. A steam from a broken hot water pipe at the Doghouse Restaurant caused a fire response at 6:22 pm with slight damage.
