No Rain Brings Water Crisis to City Cannery Operations

Fire destroys Baptist Mission garage. cause undetermined
A fire early Monday completely leveled the Baptist Mission garage, shop and recreation center, with an estimated loss of $35,000. Four vehicles including a new 1 ton Dodge, a 1961 Chevrolet Corvair, a Ford tractor, and a 1954 Dodge bus were destroyed along with tools and equipment. Mission Superintendent Bill Stone praised the Kodiak Volunteer Fire Department for their quick response, noting heat could have endangered Mc Whinney Cottage across the street.

Construction of State Vocational School Under Way By 64
Sen. Al Owen says actual construction of the Ko diak Aleutians Vocational School should begin by spring 1964. Location to be chosen by the state board of education after reviewing the buildings division report on site utilities and transportation access. The bond funds cover construction of the school proper only. Housing funds may come from federal sources. The school will be open to all citizens regardless of race. Owen credits teamwork with Rep. Gil Jarvela in passing enabling legislation.

Dugwyler Resigns Guard Post in Alaska Unit

Nekeferoff Dies Veteran From World War I at 65
Bill Nekeferoff 65 died Sunday April 14 at his Tagura Road home. Born Kodiak April 24 1897 he was a World War I veteran. Funeral services were held at Kodiak Mortuary at 10 a.m. Friday followed by burial at the Russian Cemetery. Sole survivor is his brother George Nekeferoff.
