City Dock Finances Show Profit Despite Government Payment
City records reveal operating profit of $16 000 for the dock last year with $7 000 plus of that paid to the U S government as annual payment and interest on the dock debt. Fiscal year revenue totaled $55 762.42 against expenses of 39 624.36. Wharfage and handling led income at 39 651 92. Rental property yielded 12 497 50 while moorage produced 117. Largest expense was payroll at 24 038 41 covering wharfmasters long shoremen jitney drivers and checkers. City began dock operations in 1946 under a government lease and planned to buy the dock for 65 000 with a 13 000 down payment and annual 5 000 payments plus interest until paid.

Entries for Kodiak's first baby show must be submitted by this evening at Knudsen's or Bert's per Mrs. Homer Lightfoot. The event, at 2 PM tomorrow, will be at the VFW Club under the VFW auxiliary. Thirty two entries had been received, all but six boys. Judges, three servicemen, will pick top baby boy and girl with prizes. City Market displays royal purple robes for the winners, plus toys and prizes from merchants. Candy donations from City Market and Krafts, baskets from Donnelly and Acheson, and a $10 clothing order from the VFW auxiliary await winners. Free refreshments will follow. the public is invited.

Cannery Heads Tell About Seattle Quake
Three eyewitnesses from Seattle arrived in Kodiak detailing the Northwest quake that caused 15 million dollars in damage and eight deaths. They described streets shaking, shelves rattling, and a large safe moving, while Seattle police reported falling bricks and ongoing trouble calls. Easter Egg Hunt Starts At 1
