Construction of Kodiak Ferry Underway for 22 Staterooms
Public Works Commissioner Richard Downing says Christy Corp of Sturgeon Wisconsin has an issued letter of intent dated March 28 1963 to commence construction of the Kodiak Ferry. The vessel will include 22 staterooms and is planned to deliver to Alaska for operation in the Kodiak area between July 15 and July 20 1964.

Kodiak Island Borough Petition Circulation Planned
The Kodiak Island Borough Study Group met on April 9 and approved circulating a petition to make Kodiak Island a second class borough. Voters will decide Yes or No on the ballot while the group rejected adding sanitation, water, fire, or police powers at this time. Additional powers could be added later if desired. A four-member committee was appointed to draft the incorporation petition, with circulation assigned to John Schreiner Okie Chandler and Harold Alexander.

One Dead and One Injured in Greek Ship Blast
A Greek seaman Spiridon Davaris of Athens died from injuries after an explosion on the MV Palagos. Another seaman Nick Draggins, 32, was badly burned and hospitalized. The vessel was 900 miles off Kodiak when the blast hit on April 1.
