Baby Show Postponed to May 18 by VFW Auxiliary

The annual baby show sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary is moved from May 4 to May 18 to avoid clashing with Kodiak High School’s Baccalaureate. The event at USC Club starts at 1pm with Mrs. Lars Panamaroff as chairwoman. over 20 babies, ages up to three, are entered. Rules require dresses for girls and no costumes for boys. Entry forms are at Bert's or Knudsen's. Posters were produced by junior high students. Winners in designs are Sue Daly first and Gail Lightfoot second.

Taft Scores Big Victory In Illinois Primary

Across Illinois Sen. Robert Taft defeated Harold Stassen and Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in the GOP contest with Stassen second and Eisenhower third as a write-in. Sen. Estes Kefauver led Democrats easily while Adlai Stevenson drew few votes. Truman suggested he may name a preferred candidate before the convention.

Concert Planned At Naval Station Kodiak

The final of three concerts will be at the Navy gymnasium Kodiak Naval Station on April 28 at 8 20 pm. Alaska Music Trails Association sponsors the event inviting military personnel and their families as guests. Artists’ expenses are covered by a voluntary music lovers subscription. Civilian members may enter with season tickets.

Suit Filed By ASC Against Pacific Coast Union

Seattle The Pacific Maritime Association and Alaska Steamship Company filed suit in U S District Court on Tuesday against the Pacific Coast Marine Firemen Oilers Watertenders and Wipers Association for damages not less than 1959 per day up to 47500 per day depending on vessels affected The ASC said the union struck the Susitna Sunday breaching the contract and risking essential defense cargo for Alaska and called for an immediate end to the strike.

Body Found In Channel Near Dock In Alaska Mystery

The body of Keefer Krasnikoff, 44, was found floating in a channel near the Donnelley and Acheson dock around 8:30 Sunday. He was last seen late Saturday night after spending time with friends. An inquest was scheduled. next of kin in Nililchik, Alaska, Simeon Kvasnikoff, is notified. Funeral arrangements await kin notification.

Dairy Loses Contract Over Carton Milk Deadlines

Naval officials at Kodiak Station informed Bell's Dairy owner E. E. Bell that renewal hinges on switching from bottles to paper cartons. Negotiations were summarized to the Chamber of Commerce by W. G. Ellis. Bell, new to Kodiak from Washington, has run Bell's Dairy in Bell's Flats for 10 years. Navy cites regulations and cost of carton machinery run to thousands of dollars. Navy can source state milk for 22 cents per quart. Bell's milk costs 89 cents per quart with no freight charges. Reached for comment, Bell did not respond.

Ski Jump Men Return To KNS

Captain Christian Duborg and Lieut. Frank Brink return to Kodiak Naval Station after days on a floating ice island near the north pole. An Airforce C-47 evacuated them when a Navy P2V engine trouble forced a return to the island. Rear Adm. E. A. Cruise ordered a replacement engine and six maintenance men to the downed Neptune to resume repairs. The nine other men remained on scene.
