Cannery Changes Under Way At Local Plant

Frank McConaghy arrived aboard the reconditioned Duncan to supervise operations for the cannery set to start June 1. A new two story warehouse will replace the old, the cannery will be enlarged with a 70 foot one story addition, and a high speed line will replace the 4 pound line. A sliming machine is on the way. Glen Palmer, returning to Seattle, will captain the tender Cougar to Kodiak, a vessel purchased this year.

Kodiak Chamber Rejects Wallgren Fish Bill

The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce voted Thursday night to denounce the Wallgren fish bill and urged opposing its passage. Delegate Anthony Dimond in Washington described the bill as largely objectionable to most Alaskans and warned it would grant perpetual exclusive leases to trap sites, risk inheritance of estates by heirs, and lack safeguards for Alaskan residents.
