Elaine McIntyre Emblem Club Head

The Kodiak Emblem Club No. 187 held its annual installation and initiation Saturday, March 30 at the Elks Club. Elaine McIntyre was installed as president with a full slate of officers and seven new initiates forming the Elaine McIntyre Class. The event, led by Supreme District Deputy Lillian Smith, included a social hour with Elks No. 1772 officers as honored guests.

Little League Work Party This Sunday

A work party is slated Sunday April 7 at 2 p.m. at Coon Memorial Little League Ball Park next to the Armory. Volunteers are asked to bring a hammer saw rake or come as they are to help repair the fence and get the field ready for practice and upcoming Little League games.

Cold Storage Plans Meeting With Alaska Ranchers

Midnight Saturday Ticket Sales End For Big Ice Game

The 1963 Nenana Ice Classic ticket sales will close at 12 midnight Saturday. Ice thickness reaches 50 inches at the break-up tripod, higher than last year and aided by March rains and snows. All School play Dino has been delayed to April 11 and 13 due to unexpected complications. Tickets are on sale for the unusual dramatic presentation at Kodiak High Auditorium. It is regretted that these production nights interfere with Holy Week events.

Mallard Grounded At Port Williams In Strong Winds

Marine notes report the 36-foot fishing boat Mallard went aground on the beach at Port Williams when high winds last week snapped her anchor line. No major damage was noted. The Reefer II likely reached Seattle while Petersburg Press notes a motor fire caused by an electrical short. Carl Laggerberg, Patrick Patterson, and Skipper Dan Stanworth were hospitalized in Petersburg for flu with inhalation of smoke and ammonia fumes. Laggerberg is in serious condition and expected to be hospitalized longer. Confirmation of further details pending.
