Union Oil Arrives in Kodiak for Local Service
The Union Oil Company floating bulk plant reached Kodiak Monday and moored at the pier. Kodiak Sales Company, run by Jack Hinckel and Lee C. Bettinger, will operate the service starting Monday morning, with two tank trucks delivering aviation fuel and town supplies to PNA flights, small boats, and residents while offering kerosene diesel and stove oil.

Records of the Kodiak Retail Liquor Dealers Association were sent to the grand jury in Anchorage to probe alleged anti trust law violations. Mayor Seeks Statehood Pleas From All Local Groups
City council members voted to send Mayor Lee C. Bettinger to Washington to press for statehood and land title for a new water reserve. New Cab Stands Are Allowed In City Front
The city council re zoned cab stands along Harbor Avenue and Alaska Way in front of Mecca Liquor Store. It now allows three cabs from the Harbor Avenue corner toward Alaska Way and one cab at the Harbor Avenue corner. Warning On Power Use In Kodiak Area
Electrical users faced a stern warning to conserve power this week to avert a total blackout in Kodiak. A Buckeye engine failure at the KEA plant increased load on remaining units, risking disconnection to parts of town if spare parts do not arrive by air later this week. Leon Johnson said repairs used last spare parts and warned heavy users to cut consumption while Enterprise generators await energizing and the Susitna delivers a new switchboard.

Ex Wharfinger repays city in embezzlement case
F. C. Woods, former city wharfinger charged last October with embezzling city funds, has fully restitutioned $1750, Mayor Lee Bettinger said yesterday. Woods, free on bail, has been working in Kodiak after leaving the city post. The city notified the bonding company and the U S attorney in Anchorage that payment is complete and it does not seek charges. The U S attorney will decide whether charges are dropped.

George Woolfolk and Walter A. James waived a preliminary hearing before Commissioner A M Vokacek on a charge of possessing stolen property. Bound over to the Anchorage grand jury for property taken from H F MacDonald's Kodiak Cold Storage plant. Bail set at 500 dollars each, not yet posted. They remain in the federal jail.

Admiral Wagner to retire from Navy after 39 years
Rear Admiral F D Wagner, commander of the 17th Naval District and Alaska Sea Frontier, will retire on June 1 after 39 years of service. Rear Admiral Clifton Sprague will take command May 1. Wagner, 1915 Annapolis graduate, has held multiple flag assignments and earned the DSM with gold star and Legion of Merit amid a career featuring carrier commands and naval air leadership. He and Mrs. Wagner plan to move closer to children and grandchildren in Kodiak. Sprague, then commander of naval air bases in San Diego and San Francisco, formerly led carrier actions in the Battle of Leyte Gulf where his small carriers defeated the Japanese fleet attempting to reach invasion ships.

Seward Sanitarium Nurses Quarters Destroyed by Fire
Fire ruined the Seward sanitarium tuberculosis hospital nurses quarters on Wednesday night. Nurse Mrs. Alice Reay suffered severe third degree burns. One hundred thirty nine patients were evacuated via the children's ward and valuable surgical equipment was removed. No loss estimate yet available.
