Registration Tops Last Year in Voter Takings

Voter registration reached 375 yesterday, up 17 from last year, signaling strong interest in this year's political contests. Twelve candidates for council indicate a close race while the mayoral contest with three candidates draws attention. Voters must register by today at 4 at the city clerk's office. election day is next Tuesday at City Hall with polls from 8 am to 7 pm.

Fire drill announced by fire chief and health service liaison

Fire Chief Jack King announces a fire drill next Tuesday at nine in the evening and asks all members to be present. Major Robert W. MacCallmont, a doctor assigned to Kodiak by the Territorial Public Health Service, arrived last Friday to assume duties handling health service beneficiaries and serving as liaison between the military and city on health matters.

OPA Plans Halibut Price Increase in Seattle

Senator Walgren said the Office of Price Administration will likely approve soon a 12.5 cent per pound rise in halibut ceiling prices for Seattle landings. Previously large halibut were 16 cents and medium 17.5 cents. Fishermen complained of Prince Rupert prices and dealers urged higher ceilings to attract Seattle landings.

Taxis must swap to orange 1944 plates at office

All taxis with black 1944 license plates must return them to the U S Commissioner’s Office and obtain orange 1944 plates. The orange tags are for for hire cars but were not received here until now.
