In Hampton Virginia a preliminary hearing for Professor Elisha Kent Kane on charges of drowning his wife was interrupted when Mrs W C Graham mother of Mrs Kane collapsed in sobs on the witness stand. Graham had testified about letters to Kane from another woman and domestic strife prompting officials to reopen the investigation. Coroner Vanderslice testified that letters and testimony suggested possible foul play. Kane’s brother and a relative testified Kane spoke of a story for newspapers.

New World's Air Speed Record Set at 415 mph
London AP reports Flight Lieutenant G I Stainforth set a new world air speed record of 415 miles per hour at Calshot yesterday on a four lap course of three kilometers and seven eighths miles. His average was 408.8 mph, beating the Schneider cup mark. The Rolls Royce powered Seaplane flew through mist and landed at 109 mph, Stainforth telling his wife he believed he had broken the record.
