35 000 More Guard Called For Federal Service
President Roosevelt ordered 35 700 national guard officers and men into active duty for a year of training. Reservists from New York Ohio Michigan Wisconsin Mississippi Puerto Rico and Hawaii will report October 15. Units include the 27th division at Fort McClellan the 37th division at Camp Shelby and the 32nd division at Beauregard with associated observation squadrons and medical companies.

Mule Falls Kills Rogersville Man
Rogersville man Dallas Mack Horton, 86, died at Lyons Hospital from injuries when a mule fell on him on route 11. Horton, employed on the Walter Flamblen farm, was removing a sack of corn from the mule’s back when it slipped. He leaves four brothers G A Horton R W Horton Neal Horton of Rogersville and J L Horton of Surgoinsville, one sister Mrs Ross Stewart of Rogersville. Funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Chopsack Baptist Church with Rev Giles Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Stanley Valley.
