In Pasquotank County four people were killed and two injured in a head-on crash south of Elizabeth City. Victims include Clarence L. Williams 23 and his brother Jack Williams 26 both from Elizabeth City and Marines Jose Ruiz 25 and R A Hayes 22 from Edenton. An unidentified sailor in the Marines’ car was critically injured. Dorothy Kostoff of Elizabeth City was the other injured.

Three Rescued From Ice Cap
The Air Force reports three of twelve aboard a British RAF plane that crashed on the Greenland ice cap have been rescued and returned to Thule Air Base. Capt. Charles W. Stover of Portland Maine is among the rescued with possible back injuries. The other nine survivors remain trapped in the 35 degree below zero conditions awaiting extraction when weather allows. The rescue was executed with Maj. Harold Julia Table Rock Maine piloting a Grumman amphibian, joined by Capt. Woodrow Gilbert of Tampa Florida and Lt. Hubert C. Holden, a paratroop medic. The plane crashed on September 16 while supplying a six man British scientific expedition camped at 10,000 feet.
