Japanese officials backed by armed marines sealed off a large area of the international settlement in Shanghai after Chinese protests over Japanese entry into the district. Rear Admiral Kondo said Japan is maintaining order as one marine died and two were wounded in the incident. A Chinese suspect was held for investigation while a Japanese eyewitness claimed a lone Chinese gunman staged the attack. The Japanese declared they are acting in self defense and urged calm among Japanese residents.

Three acquitted in murder trials in Kentucky
In Kentucky trials, one man was convicted and three acquitted while another jury hung. At New Castle Henry circuit court jurors convicted Notice Colston, 23, of manslaughter in the February 1925 slaying of Vester McAllister, 22, and set a 16 year sentence.
