Sam Anderson led the caravan with Bob Poole and IL Weber giving speeches and Frank Taxlor coordinating entertainment for large crowds at each stop. The tour promotes the semi annual Kingsport Days sales event, dubbed Singsport.
Dr Eugene D Fugate owner of Clinchport Virginia drug store was appointed a member of the Scot county School Trustee Electoral Board to fill the unexpired term of Prof C T Lark who died several weeks ago The appointment was made by Circuit Judge EB T Carter and the board selects the seven regular members who run county school administration
Cairo suffered its first air attack as Axis planes bombed the city killing 39 civilians. The strike marked a dramatic escalation in wartime raids with implications for reprisals on Rome. Alexandria and Athens had seen prior bombing activity, while Cairo held religious significance to Muslims.

In Sullivan County circuit court Judge Ferguson ordered 30 day jail terms for five men charged with driving drunk. Names listed include Franke White and Dick Linebaugh among others, with fines and license revocations in several cases. Other hearings ended with guilty verdicts for theft and larceny charges.
A city court hearing before NLRB Trial Examiner J. J. Fitzpatrick in Washington heard AFL charges that Elie Ridge Glass Corporation is company dominated. The Kingsport Fat Glass Workers Association is alleged to be dominated by the company. Raymond McChire, a glass cutter, testified as the only witness as attorneys expected the session to extend through the week.
Nashville Tennessee the state utilities commission ordered Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company to show cause why its intrastate long distance rates should not be reduced to match interstate levels. The order notes rates are higher than AT&T interstate charges and sets October deadlines for filing and a hearing. The commission estimates intrastate rate cuts could save from 100000 to 400000 annually.
