Roy Dulaney of Big Stone Gap grows vegetables as a hobby and to feed his family. His son Carl Smith, worked with Inter-Mountain Telephone in Kingsport, brought oriental radish seed last spring. Carl dug up the first radish and found it nearly 17 inches long and eight inches around, possibly the largest radish grown there. Two more were slightly smaller, with Smith noting radishes can reach three feet if left undisturbed.
