Virginia Hereford Association organized a three day caravan drawing cattlemen to Sulphur Spring Farm near Rural Retreat. After a 2 pm program breeders toured the 25 brood cows of Colorado Domina and Zato Heir, a son of Silver Tone. Sires include a Rose Hill Farm bred line, with 10 years of performance testing. Wythe Hereford Association helped sponsor the event with other hosts Briarmoor Farm at Middlebrook and Seven Springs Farm in Petersburg.
Rashville Halcherins placed 967000 broiler chicks with Tennessee growers in the week ended Sept 4. The Tennessee Crop Reporting Service says placements in 23 leading broiler states were 13 percent above the previous year.
Atlanta reports the US Department of Agriculture will implement new wool grading standards on January 1, 1988. The system keeps numeric designations but adds micron based fiber diameter limits and rules for lot sampling versus direct measurement. Ununiformity of fibers becomes a grade factor with specified diameter variation limits.
