Board member seeks press ban at Nashville schools
Davidson County School Board member Aubrey Maxwell proposed barring photographers from school grounds without prior approval from the superintendent and forbidding principals to give school problem interviews. He tied the move to Clinton integration riots, saying pictures of children should not appear in papers nationwide. Highways Will Cost $8 Billion In 1956
Washington The government estimated a record 8.2 billion dollars will be spent for highway purposes in 1956. More than eight tenths of this will fund construction of roads and streets, not including federal highway program costs. The plan calls for 41,000 miles of interstate roads plus state and urban routes at a cost exceeding 50 billion dollars over the next 33 to 41 years.

The Tennessee Public Service Commission announced additional assessments totaling 2,802,755 dollars against public utilities in Tennessee. Southern Bell Telephone Co. faced over half the new charges, with holdings assessed at 1,850,850 dollars for 1956.
