Man Killed in Holdup at Pikeville Filling Station
In Pikeville Kentucky at Mayor Trail near midnight an unidentified man was killed and two companions wounded during a suspected robbery at Oscar Sewards 26 operator of a filling station and soda stand. Woodson Parks 48 of Charleston West Virginia and Charles Foster of Charlotte North Carolina were wounded and jailed. Sewards said a man entered the office while another occupant stole money from a car then fled as gunfire erupted with ten to twelve shots fired from two pistols.

Washington AP reports the Treasury offered 1.15 billion dollars in securities to fund maturing notes and certificates. A 5 year note for 750 million at 3 1/4 percent dated September 15 and an 11 4 percent one year certificate make up the bulk. The deficit is about 400 million, with a hoped reduction from September third quarter income taxes.
