Taxes Exceed All Tennessee Relief

Woman Rescued After Ten Minutes on High ledge
In Nashville a 66 year old woman, Mrs Charles Childs, leaned from an eighth floor window. Neighbors A C Johnson and Joe Stark grabbed her arms as she slipped. Clarence Barnes climbed through a window, swung on a railing, and lifted her to safety. Fire crews then stretched a net but the rescue was completed before it could be used. Crowd watched as the perilous scene unfolded.

Jury Selected in Negro Lynching Trial at Manchester
Manchester Tenn Sept 5 Only one juror remained to be chosen today for the trial of eight white men charged with murder in connection with the lynching of a Negro near here earlier this summer. The defendants include Elijaty Keel Ed win Keel and Lewis Garner among others. The trial, opened yesterday, was postponed to allow additional defense preparations before Judge R A Smartt of the seventh state judicial circuit. The eight men were arrested within hours after the beaten body of Dick Wilkerson, 35, was found about 14 miles away.

Woman burned to death in Nashville church fire
Mrs. Nancy Patton, 47, widow with two daughters Irma 16 and Evelyn 14, died when a Cumberland Presbyterian church in Nashville burned last night. Firefighters found her body in the ruins after she reportedly tried to save household furniture rather than escape. Irma and Evelyn, awakened by smoke, fled to a neighbor for help as Miss Verna Troxell and a visitor assisted. The stairway was blocked by cluttered boxes and furniture, hindering a rescue until firefighters brought the blaze under control about half an hour after arrival.

In Oklahoma City on September 23 Mrs. A W Gott, a wealthy paralyzed widow, was attacked by thousands of red ants that crawled up to her bed and left her unconscious with swollen eyes after a two and a half hour ordeal.
