Phillip George Stanley 20 of Unicoi was arrested in Charlottesville after a witness led police to him on a bus bound for New York. Police linked him to the stabbing death Monday night of Sullivan County music teacher Ivan Tipton on a Cherokee area road. An autopsy showed a heart stab wound with additional chest and throat injuries. blood, a car, and scattered items were found in Tipton’s vehicle. Stanley allegedly told a friend he killed someone as he hid details of the crime.
