Norfolk May 27 truck fields of Tidewater Virginia received a gentle soaking rain farmers longed for ten days. Potatoes beans and cabbage will benefit while strawberry season extends. The Diamond Springs truck experiment station reported the rain arrived too late to aid the POA crop much.

Muskegon Mich May 28 Asa K Bartlett Blue Lake township constable and Klan leader was arrested today in connection with the mail bomb outrage at the Three Lakes Tavern. The blast killed Janet Krubaech 19 William Frank 22 and August Krubaech 58. Postal inspectors traced the package to the Muskegon post office and to C Green 1000 Reynolds Muskegon Heights. Samuel F. Patterson, president of the American Federation Cotton Manufacturers Association, died at his Roanoke Rapids home after years of illness. A recent Atlanta convention trip aggravated his condition. he was 58. Patterson led Rosemary Manufacturing and previously managed a Baltimore silk mill. Burial is expected in Winston-Salem, with funeral arrangements not yet set.

Baltimore Md May 28 An air of expectancy pervaded the third day of the 138th general assembly of the Presbyterian church in the United States of America as about nine hundred delegates awaited the committee of fifteen report readings. The committee, formed last year amid a recognized cleft between fundamentalists and modernists over Scriptural miracles, produced a frame report. The presiding moderator Dr William O Thompson and Dr Lupsley McAfee, both fundamentalists, headed the committee. Thompson, backed by modernists, had strong support for liberal beliefs. Thompson, a former farm worker who rose through college as a janitor, later served in home missions and became president emeritus of Ohio State University. Routine business continued this morning.
