County receives TVA funds to cover taxes in 1954
Sullivan County will receive 1,16,329.06 and Hawkins County 2,858.74 in lieu of taxes from the Tennessee Valley Authority for the current fiscal year ending June 30. TVA announced payments totaling 3,578,668 to state and county governments and an estimated 5,391,000 from municipal distributors, bringing the grand total to 8,970,000. TVA notes the combined payments exceed former reservoir land and private power property taxes by 5,740,000 and that TVA’s payments rise 160,558 over fiscal 1953 and 2,242,675 above the minimum.
