Holton May Reduce State Speed Limits

RICHMOND. Maurice Rowe secretary of commerce and resources says Gov. Linwood Holton is weighing an emergency proclamation to cut interstate speed limits to conserve gasoline. The move, if used, would drop limits from 70 mph to 60 mph and is one option among fuel-shortage measures. Interior department estimates a speed limit cut could lower gasoline demand by five to six percent.

Civilian Judges Hear Calley Appeal On Three Points

The Court of Military Appeals will review three of thirty defense points in 1st Lt. William L. Calley Jr. case. It will consider pretrial publicity bias but reject claims that command influence tainted the trial. Calley, 29, convicted of murdering at least 22 Vietnamese at My Lai and under house arrest at Fort Benning.

Suit Filed To Regain Money Given To Committee

A retired businessman from Bridgeton Missouri filed a federal class action seeking the return of contributions to President Nixon's reelection campaign and an accounting of funds. The suit targets the Finance Committee to Reelect the President and 11 individuals including John N. Mitchell and Maurice H. Stans, alleging misuse for political espionage and related crimes. The plaintiff seeks $1 million in damages and an injunction to stop improper use of funds.
