Youth acquitted of killing friend in Jackson gin party
Edward Morgan a 25 year old Jackson businessman and social leader was acquitted of murder in the February 25 shooting of his friend George E. Rice a young attorney. Morgan testified the shooting occurred accidentally during a liquor party at his apartment when he discharged a pistol while showing it. The jury deliberated about an hour and fifteen minutes before returning the verdict before Jackson society members.

County officials shifted funds in Buncombe case
In Asheville on May 22, Mrs. T. K. Terrell testified that the Buncombe County treasurer's office acts only as custodian of funds. She identified records in the trial of former county treasurer L. L. Jenkins and four other officials who, with two bankers, are charged with conspiring to use public funds to aid Central Bank and Trust Company before its failure last fall. Witnesses testified Jenkins moved large sums to the Central Bank last summer. when it failed nearly 8 million dollars in public funds were on deposit. Jenkins and co-defendants include Wallace B. Davis, Russell Davis, C. N. Malone, Newton Anderson, James W. Grimes, and J. O. McElroy.
