Registration For Home Defense Seen Possibility

A plan for voluntary registration of millions of men aged 21 through 35 for civilian defense is under consideration with Mayor LaGuardia to lead the effort. Home Guard Unit Receives Arms From State Depot

Kingsport unit of the Third Tennessee Regiment received equipment from regimental headquarters in Knoxville. Capt. W. J. Donnelly said the first issued arms include rifles bayonets scabbards rifle slings and 300 rounds of ammunition. A call meeting is set for Friday at 7 p m to inspect the material. The unit aims to grow from 35 to 50 members by next Tuesday to invite Col. James A. Gleason for induction services the following week.

Revenue Officers Arrest Pair Here

Kingsport police said Hack Creek and Bob Morelock were arrested on Long Island by U S Government revenue officers and charged with illegal liquor possession. Ten half gallon containers were seized and the pair were taken to Jonesboro for arraignment. John Louis is held in Kingsport jail in connection with the arrest.

Farmers Reap Millions From Steep Price Advances

Washington reports sharp commodity price gains have boosted farmers' profits from 1940 cotton and wheat stored under the agriculture department's ever-normal granary program.
