The Mathers of Git Scout Cadette Troop 270 also holds a May 19 sale at Ft Henry Lebanon Corner Colonial Heights. Fall Branch Fire Department hosts a rummage sale May 19 at Fall Branch School from morning to late afternoon with refreshments and pickup by calling 348-7459. The Lynn Wew Automotive Club sponsors a Road Rally on Tuesday May 22 at 4 30 p m with a pre rally meet May 21 at 4 30 p m at the school. For information call 245-0037 or 247-1757.
Local schools announce a string of spring events including Lynn View High School music department concert May 15 7 30 p.m. and art exhibit 7 00 to 10 00 p.m. Thursday. Dobyns Bennett events include spring program May 25 8 p.m. and a mixed chorus concert May 22 8 p.m. both at Civic Auditorium and Little Theatre with no charge. Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty perform May 18 at Dobyns Bennett gym sponsored by Downtown Optimists. Proceeds support Sullivan County Rescue Squad.
United Auto Workers president Leonard Woodcock said Elliott Richardson would be a likely choice for the next GOP presidential candidate after a television interview. Woodcock noted Richardson’s Watergate detachment and contrasted options including Charles Percy and Ted Kennedy.
A White House aide described President Nixon as largely cut off, with only three top advisers close to him and limited direct access to lawmakers. Testimony outlined Haldeman Ehrlichman and Ziegler as the core trio who interacted with the President despite resignations connected to Watergate.
Viewers across the United States flooded stations with complaints as networks preempted soap operas and quiz shows for Senate Watergate hearings. Callers used hostile terms, with some deriding the coverage as nuisance while others supported watching the hearings after 10 p.m. and a few blamed the media for the controversy.
Police Sgt. Paul Leeper testified to the Senate Watergate committee that an unmarked car and plain clothes allowed the arrest party to search the Watergate complex undetected. Five men were arrested on June 17 after a guard found taped doors and a lookout warned the group.
Houston technicians rush the assembly of two aluminum coated nylon sun shades for Skylab as three space repairmen prepare to carry them into orbit. Charles Conrad Joseph Kerwin and Paul Weitz study rigging a sun shade to shield the eight room station while Johnson Space Center guides a rendezvous with Skylab from Cape Kennedy.
Miki Garcia of Sacramento, a Playboy centerfold, will be among President Nixon's guests at a May 24 dinner. She plans to dress more than the bearted centerfold and weighs whether to give the Nixons an autographed copy of the January foldout.
