Tennessee farmers earned about 1 percent less for products on April 15 than a year earlier, with the parity index at 243 percent of the 1910-14 average. Prices fell for small grains and soybeans while rising for corn, hogs, lambs, wool, milk, and potatoes. The national parity index also slid to 236 percent, and the parity ratio dipped to 75, the lowest since August 1999.

Tennessee forester wins Outstanding Tree Farm Inspector Award
Glenn M. Plummer of Lexington Tennessee received the Tennessee Outstanding Tree Farm Inspector Award from the Keep Tennessee Green Association during its annual meeting in Nashville. John N. Tyler chaired the Tennessee Tree Farm Program as the presentation was made. Plummer, a conservation forester for Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Co., earned the honor and a $25 prize for helping the most timberland owners reach Tree Farm status in 1963.
