Veterans from across the South gather in Birmingham for the 6th annual Confederate reunion. Geneva May 18 The preparatory disarmament commission today moved to keep the meeting from becoming a purely League of Nations body. Viscount Cecil proposed two subcommittees open to all states to name representatives. One panel would study military naval and air questions and the other the general economic issue. The original plan was to turn detailed disarmament work over to League bodies, with non league nations like the United States allowed representatives.
Tri-State Tobacco Growers Co operative Marketing Association members adjourned their Raleigh session without a definite decision on continuance or dissolution. Discussion focused on ownership via five subsidiary corporations and avoiding forced warehouse sales, with the 1925-26 season deemed unsuccessful and the group reporting about 83,000 pounds of something.
Birmingham May 18 With assets over 400000 and no liabilities the Stone Mountain Memorial to the Confederacy is assured and work on the figures of President Davis General Lee and General Jackson will be completed in two years. Wollins R Randolph president of the Stone Mountain Association spoke to the Confeder ate Memorial Association at the United Confederate Veterans reunion. He said the project began with 185 in treasury and debts nearly 25000 but now has assets over 400000 with no liabilities. He announced the plan to let contracts to carve the central group and that carving can be finished within two years, followed by the rest of the panorama.
Nome May 18 Four Arctic explorers led by Roald Amundsen rest in a Nome cabin awaiting a steamer expected June 15 to take the Norge and crew home. Captain Oscar Wisting and Lt Oskar Qundahl join Ellsworth in the explorers club as the ship is carefully packed for shipment.
The Interstate Commerce Commission reassigned the hearing on Southern Railway authority to abandon its line between White Oak and Danville Virginia from May 18 to May 27 in Richmond before the Virginia Corporation Commission.

Warren A Candler shifts to district 1 Collings Denny moves from 3 to 2 Edwin Mouzon moves from 7 to 2 Dubose shifts within Tennessee Beauchamp moves from European district 6 to Georgia district 10 Darlington moves from Illinois WV and Kentucky to European field John W Moore moves from Brazil to West Texas and New Mexico Boaz to come from orient to district 14 in Oklahoma and Arkansas

Seventeen passengers from the Clyde Liner Seneca signed a statement upon arrival in New York claiming that crew members were under the influence of liquor during the sinking off Miami and that some wore preservers ahead of passengers.
