Army worm watch urged by UT entomologist
UT entomologist R. P. Mullett warns small grain farmers to monitor for army worms each spring as numbers can surge in certain counties. The pests attack leaves and then cut grain heads, feeding mainly at night. Control is possible with insecticides but residue and silage concerns exist. Begin with two to three worms per square foot.
