Police Blotter Follows Mysterious Child Voice on Telstar Drive

City police logged a mystery on Telstar Drive after Fred Campbell reported hearing a boy call for help in a wooded area. Despite searches by residents, police, a paint crew, and a dogcatcher, no source was found. The voice was heard between 7 and 4 a.m. and the boy seemed nine or ten.

Budget Tightening Cuts Sullivan County School Funds

The Sullivan County Board of Education cut the 1972/73 revised budget to about 9.2 million dollars after a sales tax defeat. Superintendent Pat H. Spivey outlined reductions in capital outlay, staff salaries, supplies, transportation, and power, with a projected need of 5911,000 to operate and a $179,000 increase deemed minimal. A surprising $150,000 surplus was reported despite anticipated renovation delays.

Woman Sent To Jail For Beating Stepsister

Sessions Judge George Garrett sentenced Charlotte Meade to 90 days in jail and $50 fine for beating her five year old stepsister Patricia Dennison. The child suffered bruises from a belt strike. Meade’s jail term was suspended on prosecutorial recommendation.

Fire Flares In Basement Causes Smoke Damage

Kingsport Fire Department responded to the home of David Sparks at 401 Wesley Rand Tuesday night for a basement fire. Fire officials say three discarded cigarettes in a basement trash can caused the blaze. light fire damage was reported with smoke damage in the dwelling.
