Finest Strawberry Patch At Reasor Farm
Wise County reports the Reasor farm near Big Stone Gap grows a premier patch of strawberries. Charles and Mrs Reasor expect about 600 gallons from a half acre, using 600 pounds of fertilizer and Tennessee Belle strawberry plants from Mullins Plant Farm. Customers pick up directly at the farm, with locals and visitors traveling from Kingsport to harvest. Frost last week did not seem to damage the plants. County agent J L McCormick refrained from recommending changes.

At Billy Minton farm near Nichlesville a non tilage corn planting method was demonstrated. Orchard grass sod was sprayed with atrazine to kill peas forming a mulch. A conventional planter was used to plant the seed conserving moisture and reducing erosion on sleepland. Kenneth G. Reynolds noted the method avoids plowing and discing.
