A section of the lower grandstand at the Philadelphia National League ballpark collapsed injuring more than 50 spectators and trapping hundreds in a crowd rush during the seventh inning. Emergency crews treated about 60 at hospitals and many more returned home after observation. the game ended 12 to 3 with Philadelphia ahead.
Federal and state relief efforts reach 8000 residents stranded by floodwaters across 13 Louisiana parishes north of the Red River. Coast guard cutters navigate the water maze to count those who stayed behind as Arkansas and Mississippi crevasses flood homes, report to flood director John M. Parker.
Johnson Citians cast the lightest vote in the city's history for a $150000 refunding bond issue. The tally was 84 in favor and 59 against, with 143 total votes recorded during busy shopping hours.
Vanderbilt medical student George Walter remains in serious condition after a late night crash en route to the Derby. The overturned car pinned five Vanderbilt passengers near a sharp curve by a bridge in Portland, Tenn. Passengers included Walter and Jimmie Boles. K Woody and New Stewart helped free others as flames erupted before the car was righted. The Pan-American Express halted at Portland to return the students.
Washington May 14 The Mississippi river flood relief fund today reached a total of 11 478 558 dollars marking a significant accumulation for flood aid efforts across affected regions and communities.
Southern cotton manufacturers at the closing session endorsed closer cooperation with producers and employees. The executive committee of the cotton textile Institute approved by law amendments and elected officers included George S. Halls of Georgia as president and H R Fitzgerald of Danville Virginia as first vice president. The resignation of Stuart W Cremmer as national committee chairman was noted.
Nashville May 14 AP Mrs Young J Allen widow of Methodist Episcopal Church South missionary dies in Shanghai from pneumonia at nearly 90. She married in 1860, sailed six months to China, and after her husband’s 1907 death stayed in China. Born Mary Houston of Newman Georgia.
Mississippi flood waters batter southern Louisiana parishes from Kleinwood to Bordelonville, threatening Bayou des Glaises and Evangeline country. Evacuation tasks expand under state relief led by John M. Parker as 200000+ people and 1 million acres face inundation. Rescue boats evacuate residents to Baton Rouge and Alexandria amid widespread disruption.
Washington May 14 AP naval officers ruled search for missing French Atlantic flyers Nungesser and Coli over Labrador impracticable after careful problem study. Tugs Wandake Mohave and coast guard cutters patrolling Nova Scotia Gulf of Maine have been withdrawn due to fog and futility of further search.
Secretary Hoover announced that Alexandria will serve as the central hub for relief operations in the flooded western Louisiana region. A conference will set the plan, with preparations to shelter between 25,000 and 130,000 refugees. Hoover’s special train moved toward Mansura as crews assess the Bayou des Glaises breaches and rising floods.

Des Moines Iowa May 14 Atlee Pomeree a former Ohio senator told IE T Meredith and other Iowa Democrats that William G McAdoo is out of the running for the Democratic presidential nomination He said McAdoo hasn t a chance while Governor Smith still has a chance and many powerful friends nationwide support him.
Prohibition agent Pat Curelon reported the capture of three stills near Newport in Cocke County and the arrest of two operators, John Rollins and W. B. Ramsey, held to federal court under $1,000 bond on whiskey manufacturing charges.
Chauncey M. Depew, in Washington, says President Coolidge will run again and likely win in 1928 based on his accomplishments and immense popularity. He notes Gov. Smith of New York has strengthened his public stance, aided by a Roman Catholic church letter, and argues crime waves are largely mythic with sensational publicity. In Elizabethton Tennessee on May 14 AP reports A F P Ward was killed and his son Niley Ward badly injured when a sedan carrying eight people was sideswiped by a truck. Niley shown extremely grave with internal injuries while other occupants were released. Ed Tucker driver of the truck posted $500 bond after the fatal collision.
Dorothy Mackaye, actress and widow of Ray Raymond, testified in Los Angeles that she and Raymond were legally married, denying New York claims she was not divorced. Her testimony ties her to Paul Kelly’s murder case, with letters and telegrams shown as evidence of a relationship and alleged involvement after the death.
Gas poisoning death reported for Adair White a 15 year old schoolgirl at her home. A note left by the girl said no one should be blamed for the act but herself. Her mother was visiting on a nearby farm. relatives expressed deep sorrow. Her father had died by suicide three years earlier.
Westinghouse researchers C. R. Hanna and Dr Joseph Sleepian unveil the exponential horn loudspeaker in Pittsburgh. The device claims to deliver a one mile reach at high volume with pure bass tones and no distortion.
