Kingsport court docket details speeding and related infractions from Memorial Boulevard to Center Street. Judges imposed fines and suspensions, including a DUI case, reckless driving, and several public drunkenness and illegal parking forfeitures.
Washington reported a threat to assassinate President Eisenhower as he visited Fredericksburg to lay a wreath at Mary Ball Washington's grave. Secret Service and local police investigated, detained a potential suspect overnight, and later stated there was nothing to the threat after extensive checks.
Mrs. George Price reports on Greeneville Highway that an antenna was stolen from her home. Police say the thieves cut the wires removed the pipe and ribbons 200 yards from the house, leaving the Price family temporarily without television service.

Tompkins of Maplewood New Jersey for attorney general in charge of maternal security and heads a new Justice Department division to speed prosecutions of subversives. Tompkins, 41, previously U S district attorney for New Jersey and a wartime Singapore prosecutor, will face Senate confirmation.
Washington reports the administration aims to form a rapid defensive alliance to curb Communism in Southeast Asia. Secretary Dulles plans talks with Allied leaders and a multi nation summit for a security pact short of a full Southeast Asia treaty. Senators Douglas and Kennedy offer mixed critiques of policy and military cuts while urging independence for Indochina states and allied support.
Kingsport motorists lined Memorial Boulevard for the Safety Lane car inspection program. John Stiles urged volunteers as 28 cars were checked by 10 a.m. Only nine passed all tests, with brakes and exhaust common faults. First motorist was A R H Bushong. More workers are needed to add a second lane. Look Magazine and local safety groups sponsor the program. faulty cars receive defect cards and a bumper sticker.
Governor Frank Clement announced the re appointment of Dr T B Yancey of Kingsport to the State Board of Medical Examiners. Yancey is presently president of the board and has served Tennessee for over two decades, cited as a leader in medicine and a credit to the profession.
In Scott County Virginia an order directs a June 9 referendum in Moccasin Gap precinct to decide if Weber City and Moccasin Gap should form a new town named Weber City. The General Assembly granted a charter in its first session, permitting the vote.
Kenneth Lee Price aged 18 or 19, a former Kingsport Times-News employee, drowned when a boat capsized during a Sundy lake outing near Kingsport. The body was recovered by the Life Saving Crew in 20 feet of water after a brief two minute search. A companion, Cecil Yoakley, reported rough water and the boat tipping as they turned toward shore. Price’s survivors include his mother, a sister Mary, and brother Sgt. James Price, Fort Bragg. Civil Air Patrol aided by relaying messages. other recent drownings in the area include R. L. Pickell and Bobby James Kirk. A purse theft occurred downtown, with about $200 missing from Belly Ann Mullins of Dunbar, Virginia.

Mrs Irene Head Smith, 95, of a Hiltons farm, died after brief illness Sunday night. Survived by daughter Mary Bays of California, son James Smith of Milton, sixteen grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Funeral at 2 pm Tuesday at residence. Burial in family cemetery. Body to be moved from Scott County Funeral Home Monday 4 pm.
Hanoi and Haiphong tighten defenses after Dien Bien Phu fall as Viet Minh claims reveal 16 000 Union troops killed wounded or captured. Reports say wounded French may be exchanged under a truce while Madame De Castries believes her husband alive from a prior Nazi captivity. The fate of up to two thousand wounded remains unclear.
At the Geneva Indochina talks the Vietminh delegation backed organizing a meeting of field commanders to evacuate wounded from Dien Bien Phu. French proposals for a ceasefire and troop withdrawals were largely dismissed by the Communists, who pressed for structured evacuation arrangements amid ongoing conference talks.
