In Sullivan County Dairy Herd Improvement Association results for April supervisor Hermen Smith notes Harr and Fleenor herds share top honors. Harris 13 cows averaged 1 323 pounds of milk per cow and 51 pounds butterfat with a top 2 226 pounds milk. Fleenor 23 cows averaged 1 340 pounds milk per cow and 50 pounds butterfat. Presley’s 103 7 pounds butterfat top, Massengill 89 3 pounds, Simpson 45 pounds. Total 168 cows averaged 778 pounds milk and 21 pounds butterfat per cow.

Three pasture and hay production meetings will be held in Sullivan County this week. County Agent J W McGlain announces agronomist Webster Pendergrass of the University of Tennessee Extension Service will lead discussions on overcoming drought years and the spring freeze impact on forage. Meetings at unit demonstration farms include Luck Blalock farm Gunnings at 10 am Tuesday on Adams Chapel Road between Highway 11 W and the Alports Road.
