Crop Report Shows Tennessee Dairy Receipts Hit Record High
Tennessee Crop Reporting Service reports cash receipts from milk and cream sales in 1961 reached a record 55.9 million dollars, up 9 percent from 1960. Wholesale milk receipts also rose, while cream sold to plants declined. Total milk production and butterfat dropped from peak 1948 levels, but cows on Tennessee farms remained steady, with butterfat yield down 16 percent from 1960. Prices for milk to plants averaged 4.19 per gallon, and plant sold cream averaged 49 cents, with slight deviations from 1960 and the nine year average.
