The 28rd annual conventon of the Big Stone Gap District Conference M E Church South convenes at Broad Street Methodist Church tonight with a sermon and the Lord's Supper. Session runs through Thursday with daily meetings and addresses by local representatives and district leaders. More than 100 ministers and laymen are expected, including Broad Street delegates B E Dobyns G D Black B E B Harris C L Berrier C W Taylor and several society leaders. Public invitation extended to attend all meetings.

The state highway commissioner reports that 957.98 miles, about one quarter of the state and federal aid highway system, are in contracts for construction, including completed and under construction. Langley Goes On Trial In Kentucky Conspiracy Case
Congressman John W. Langley faces federal trial in Covington charged with conspiring to defraud the government over the removal of 1,400 cases of whiskey from the Belle of Anderson Distillery. Highway contracts invalidated by Kentucky court
The Kentucky Court of Appeals, in a sweeping ruling by Judge McCandless, declared invalid 140 miles of state highway contracts awarded last December. The decision said road contracts exceeded funding for road purposes for the fiscal year ending June 30 and warned the state road department as a legislature created agency would suspend most highway work.
