Henry Judd Gray testified in New York May 5 about struggling to strangle Albert Snyder with wire after beating him unconscious. He described the attempt as too shaky and intoxicated, then recounted disposing of blood stained clothing in a furnace and hiding the sash weight used in the attack.
United States engineers will hold a public hearing at the courthouse in Athens on Friday May 6 to consider the Hiwassee Power Company application to build five and possibly six dams on the Hiwassee River in Polk County. Federal district engineer Lewis H. Watkins and aides will represent the government while Charles M. Seymour of Knoxville will argue for the Hiwassee Power Company.
Glen Guinn is jailed at Erwin Tennessee charged with fatally striking George Range and seriously injuring Charles Pugh as they walked home from work. Range was tossed onto the car’s hood and Guinn allegedly shoved the body off then drove over it. Both Range and Pugh are railroad men.
Noellie Crowe a 19 year old daughter of Garfield Crowe a prominent Johnson Citian was seriously injured last night when struck by a car. She was hurled into a tree branches broke and she fell to the sidewalk in Johnson City Tennessee.
Little Rock Ark May 5 A night of terror ended with no visible signs of mob violence after a Negro man was lynched and burned in a main street area. State troops ordered by Governor Martineau patrolled the city after hundreds gathered, many armed, to threaten in the Negro quarter. The grand jury was set to meet to investigate the lynching of John Carter 38 who yesterday attacked Mrs Stewart and her daughter Glennie.
New Orleans weather official Dr. M Cline told the Associated Press there is no reason for fear of a flood. The Mississippi will not exceed 21 feet, the level reached on April 25. If the east bank levee breaks north of the city, authorities are prepared to manage the situation.
A radio controlled unmanned tractor plowed a 20 acre field at the University of Nebraska’s agriculture farm near Lincoln yesterday before farmers and agriculture professors. The device follows an automatic guide by F L Ziboch of Grand Island and requires no attention beyond gas and oil replenishment.
New Orleans May 8 Fifty thousand people were endangered as the Mississippi and its tributaries surged through torn levees. Tens of thousands fled Tensas parish while towns like St Joseph Newellton Waterproof faced evacuation. Concordia parish was inundated by Reds and Old Rivers backwaters affecting about 12 000 residents. Continued on page four.

Opposition leaders left, and despite calls for impeachment mentions the assembly adjourned amid charges of a Mussolini like strongman rule.
Secretary Hoover and Rear Admiral Moffett discuss the spike in air disasters. Moffett says aviation is safer now and recent deaths reflect luck rather than safety, urging a cautious assessment of accident data. Nashville May 5 The 6th general assembly ended without a sine die adjournment and neither house attempted a formal adjournment. Speaker Selden Maiden announced members were excused from future attendances. Officials noted questions on endless sessions and potential impacts on any future special sessions.
Ten Chinese are reported killed and many wounded during a house search in Samarinda's Chinese quarter on the east coast of Borneo. Police and soldiers clashed, several arrests were made, and import documents were seized according to a Bandjermassin telegram.
