Former Memphis minister seeks reduced jail term
Former Memphis minister Bert Lynwood Scott pleaded guilty to three Mississippi bank robberies and a Bells, Tennessee holdup five years ago in hopes of a 30 year sentence cut. Sheriff E M Williams of Senatobia, key witness who claimed a promise of leniency, died December 28 1963. The 6th Circuit ordered a hearing for Scott to back his story, after he received a 25 year sentence plus staged sums from Wells Banking Co in 1960 and two other Mississippi banks in 1960 and 1961.

Black Bear Spotted on UT Campus near University Hospital
A large black bear was seen near the University Hospital in Knoxville after allegedly killing a dog. Dewey Caron, UT graduate, reported the sighting and returned with J Odom, UT Farm Superintendent, and Dr. James Tanner, Zoology professor, to inspect very large tracks and the dog’s body. Authorities said the bear likely wandered from Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Inflation blamed on Johnson as prices soar and taxes rise
Republican Kenneth Roberts attacked the Johnson Administration claiming the nation suffers the greatest inflationary spiral in history.
