Reward Offered For Information In Glass Plant Murder
Glass company officials announce a five thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Everett Jenkins a 25 year old bow maker at Blue Ridge Glass Corporation. Jenkins was killed Tuesday when a dynamite explosion ignited by a wired ignition switch blew apart his car. Chief Deputy Sheriff Bil Taylor says the blast occurred beneath the driver's seat. Jenkins had been hired last May during a strike at the Ridge Glass plant led by Local 117 of the United Glass and Ceramic Workers Union. Three former workers were recently convicted for dynamiting railroad tracks near the plant. The union lost its certification last September after a National Labor Relations Board election. Picketing has continued.
