In Marseille France about 10 000 residents gathered at Place de la Bourse shouting Long live Yugoslavia after rumors of a new anti axis Yugoslav government. The crowd grew through the day as they recalled the 1934 assassination of King Alexander of Yugoslavia.
Nashville report says Reverend Bennie Yelton of Mount Juliet received a two year confinement sentence after conviction for draft dodging. A federal jury heard him claim nonregistration was a sin against an evil law, with testimony noting a past mental institution patient history. Judge Elmer Davies ordered confinement in a federal institution to be chosen by the U S Attorney General.
John L. Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers of America, summoned union leaders to a general session Monday to hear a report on joint talks with bituminous coal operators in Appalachia about a new contract replacing the one expiring at midnight Monday. He noted no specific report yet but urged miners to be ready for weekend conclusions as operators’ committee did not call a meeting yet.
Nashville discussions focus on naming a successor to G. J. Paulie as head of the State Bureau of Aeronautics. Paulie says the Aeronautics Commission accepted his resignation submitted last October after nearly two years in the role.

Mrs. Gus Caton president of the Hammond Post Women’s Auxiliary announces the Greek War Relief fund has reached 48 dollars 21 cents in Kingsport this week. With Saturday the last day she expects the total to grow as workers in theatres and crowd spots continue soliciting donations.
The admiralty announced that the British submarine Parthian torpedoed a 6,000 ton troop ship and a 10,000 ton tanker south of Italy. Washington senators approve a record farm bill exceeding 1.34 billion dollars in funding.
London reports that since the war began 28,859 civilians have been killed and 40,166 seriously injured by air raids in Britain.
Richmond Virginia staged a city blackout and a simulated enemy bombing last night. Searchlights swept the skies as a lone bomber was simulated and shot down by anti-aircraft batteries. Major A G Spalding of Fort Story announced the attack was repelled with no actual firing.
London reports RAF raids on Cologne and Duesseldorf with many heavy bombs. Operations stretch from the Rhineland to invasion ports Dunkerque Brest and Calais. Admiralty says Parthian torpedoed a troop ship and a tanker south of Italy in Italian escorted convoy. German daylight raid over London alarm fanned but three planes diverted without bombs. No Luftwaffe activity over England overnight.
Yugoslavia repudiated the axis accord and pledged full U S aid as King Peter I's regime announced neutrality. Crowds celebrated in Belgrade and Marseille while Prince Paul attempted escape, later arrested then freed, as Germany protested and panzer forces massed on the frontier.
